During 2025 MJ Abbott will be celebrating 60 YEARS in business, and we are thrilled to unveil our special logo for our 60th anniversary year.
It’s a moment to reflect on the journey that shaped our company into what it is today.
Our story began in 1965 when Michael John Abbott, then working as a tractor driver for an agricultural contractor, decided to set up a business on his own offering agricultural contracting services to local farmers. By the turn of the decade, Michael had employed five staff, and with the help of his wife Aslaug, had expanded the business by continually adding to his fleet of machinery and widening his service offering to his farming customer base.
In the 1970s Michael realised the opportunity to enter the land drainage market, and the decades that followed saw the business move premises to our now Head Office in Dinton, a rapid expansion into sports turf drainage work, and entry into the golf construction market, including drainage and irrigation works.
Through the first decade of the new millennium, MJ Abbott worked on a string of high-profile golf construction projects and, true to form, the company continued to grow and evolve, expanding its portfolio to include natural and artificial sports pitch construction, landscaping and environmental works, water supply and civil engineering works, and the supply of building products.
Through the 2020s the group increased its supply of products into the irrigation and water industries, expanded its sales of aggregates both locally and nationally, and made strategic acquisitions of Premier Pitches, Pitch Heating and TIS (Scotland) Ltd to broaden its reach and expertise.
Over the last six decades MJ Abbott has gone from strength to strength, and now enjoys an enviable reputation in all the markets it serves, encompassing the whole of the UK, Ireland, and Western Europe. As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of our journey. From our earliest supporters to our dedicated employees and loyal customers, you have all played a vital role in our success.
