We will be closed for the Christmas Holidays from Friday 20th December to Thursday 2nd January
We would like to wish all our customers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The Berwick St John Country Fayre has been running biannually since 1992, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for a wide variety of charities over the years, such as the Air Ambulance, Diabetes UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital, before committing their support exclusively to the Stars Appeal in 2012.
This year’s Fayre was another huge success, and MJ Abbott are proud to be one of the many local businesses who sponsor and support the event. Contracts Director Jim Price personally got involved with the Fayre in 2020, and then having joined the Berwick Committee, introduced the MJA team to the Fayre in 2022, which at the time produced the record-breaking result of £63,117.18.
This year, the big reveal took place on Sunday 1st December at West Barn Lodge in Fovant, and what a BIG surprise it was when the total was revealed – a truly amazing £96,983.99!
Someone at the presentation kindly donated £20 to make the total top £97,000, and then to everyone’s amazement, another fantastic anonymous donation was made to round it up to £100,000! A mind-blowing amount of money raised for the Stars Appeal – Salisbury District Hospital’s Charity.
Following a cardiac arrest in 2023, Technical Director Adrian Abbott has become a ‘Patient Ambassador’ for the Stars Appeal. Along with fellow ambassadors Adam Abel and Colin Ford, Adrian spoke at the reveal about how the Stars Appeal had enhanced his experience as a patient in the hospital. The speeches took place just prior to the cheque reveal, which caused a wave of emotion, joy and disbelief across the room at the final amount.
The Berwick St John Country Fayre Committee work tirelessly every year, arranging other events such as road runs and bingo nights in the fallow year between each Fayre. Money raised at the 2023 Tractor and 4×4 Run across Salisbury Plain helped the Stars Appeal to purchase an additional Echocardiogram machine, which is now fully operational at Salisbury District Hospital.
A huge thank you to the Berwick Committee, volunteers and all involved (including the attendees, of course) in making this year’s Berwick St John Country Fayre a success, once again!
It is so wonderful to be part of this incredible community event that brought so much joy to the thousands of people that attended, and it is a huge credit to all involved with how smoothly the event ran and how well organised it was.
The money raised will help change the lives of hundreds of people every day being treated at Salisbury District Hospital, their loved ones, and the NHS staff who care for them.
Roll on the next Fayre!
