Project summary

Drainage to the iconic Old Course at Sunningdale

MJ Abbott secured the contract to install primary and secondary drainage within Holes 2 and 14 on the Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club. Because of club commitments, the drainage work was carried out during the winter period.

The drainage work comprised:

  • Installation of 365 linear metres of 100mm diameter and 650 linear metres of 80mm diameter perforated primary drainage within fairway areas.
  • Installation of secondary drainage in the form of gravel banding, installed perpendicular to the primary drainage trenches.

The time of year dictated that the installation process had to be meticulous to achieve a good quality of reinstatement.

 

We have always used several different contractors for a variety of work but what we looked for in this instance was a company that had the experience to give us the confidence that they were capable of the work. We had to acknowledge the significance of reinstatement and the need to avoid surface disruption.
