Major reconstruction project at the home of golf
MJ Abbott secured the contract with St Andrews Bay Developments Ltd, operating company of Fairmont St Andrews, through submission of a competitive tender.
The reconstruction was designed by Gary Stephenson ‘The Linksmen’ with drainage and replacement irrigation system design by MJ Abbott. The reconstruction work was project managed by Peter Clarke of GVA Second London Wall.
The project involved the following scope of works:
- Topsoil strip and re-spread to working areas
- Reconstruction of all 18 no tee complexes
- Construction of 2 no new greens and extension of 1 no existing green
- Reconstruction, enlargement and lining of 2 no irrigation lakes
- Construction of 63 no revetted bunkers
- Reconstruction of the two closing holes on the Devlin Course (subsequently renamed as the Kittocks Course)
- Design and installation of a new primary piped drainage system
- Design and installation of a replacement Rain Bird automatic irrigation system.
