MJ Abbott

Installation of replacement water main

Ashton Court Estate, Bristol

Project summary

Replacement water main for Bristol country estate

MJ Abbott successfully tendered to Bristol City Council for the replacement of the existing 3” cast iron water main that fed across the Ashton Court Estate supplying water to the deer parks, domestic houses and water troughs.

The old water main was nearing the end of its useful life and was suffering large leaks. Working in partnership with Water Matters Ltd of Bristol, a replacement programme saw the installation of a new 90mm HPPE water main across the site and connection to the Bristol Water public mains water network.

The project scope of works comprised:

  • Utility search prior to commencing work on site
  • Safe working system put in place to safeguard the public and wild deer population
  • Open trenching by rock wheel excavator
  • Installation of new 90mm HPPE blue water mains with granular backfill and marker tape
  • Pressure test on completion
  • Chlorination on commissioning prior to connection
  • Connection to domestic dwellings and external water troughs.

The project was completed within budget and in accordance with the required programme to ensure that the site was ready for the balloon festival that followed shortly after.
